DIY MESH BOW HEADBAND

To celebrate Spring Racing season kicking off in Australia, Vogue Australia invited me to create a simple and chic piece of racewear. Naturally I couldn't help but make a DIY bow headband (said headwear has become somewhat of a uniform for me), which are about as simple as it gets and a touch more young and playful than your usual racing fare. I love this bow because it's perfect not only when you're getting all fancy at the races (ala Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman), but also for festivals, parties, fashion week and just about anywhere else you want to add a little 'kawaii' to the mix. To read the full tutorial, check it out on the Vogue website here.

For the uninitiated, the Spring Racing Carnival is a bunch of weekend race days held in Sept/Oct/November is Melbourne, Australia. It's a cultural thing to get excited about the races, not least because Spring Carnival heralds the beginning of summer and all the fun that entails (music festivals, barbeques, days at the beach etc). Even people who aren't at all interested in having a punt (like me) can't help but get sucked into the fashions on the field, sun and general air of merriment that's synonymous with the spring carnival. Most race days start out super chic and uber high fashion, but inevitably end with sunstroke, one too many vodka oranges and frantically squabbling around in the grass looking for your friend's lost iphone. But that's the charm of Spring Racing.
